Adobe Youth Voices in Delhi

Wednesday, January 16

On Monday, at AIF’s Delhi office, we met with several helpful AIF members of the Digital Equalizer program in order to set the foundation for our arrival in Hyderabad and Nalgonda. In addition to having many core questions answered about classroom structure, language barriers, etc., we scheduled visits to two schools in Delhi where the Adobe Youth Voices (AYV) program is being implemented.

AIF’s Roopak Chauhan is running Adobe’s program in ten Delhi schools that are participating in the Digital Equalizer program. We were able to visit a residential boys school/orphanage (Rani Dutta Arya Vidyalya) and a non-residential governmental day school for girls (Kamlesh Balika Vidyalya).

At Kamlesh Balika Vidyalya, Roopak broke the class of about twenty girls into three groups – computer, camera, and writing. We were assigned to the camera group, helping the students to learn about the video camera and microphone. With many hand gestures, laughs, and keen translation assistance from one of the four teachers that work at the school of about 200 girls, we instructed the students on simple camera functions, camera/recording techniques (“steady shot” and “slow zoom”), and general care of the equipment. It was an excellent introduction into the classroom setting, working with the students and teachers, as well as beneficial practical experience.
